RemarksIn April 2017, International Clinical Cancer Research Center, affiliated to Kobe University School of Medicine, was established as a new core facility for medical treatment/research/education in the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster.
Working closely with Kobe University Hospital, the center aims to provide advanced medical services centering on cancer surgeries.

  • Opened on December 1, 2017 by integrating and expanding the department of ophthalmology departments of Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital and Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation.
  • Provides standard ophthalmic services including treatment for cataract.
  • Provides various specialized medical services for glaucoma, retinal degeneration, cornea transplant, etc.; and conducts surgery using femtosecond laser, first introduced in the prefecture.
  • Provides ophthalmological care for patients with systemic illness through collaboration with Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital. (the center’s ophthalmologists provide emergency ophthalmological care at Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital)
  • Deals with ophthalmological services from research to rehabilitation, through collaboration with RIKEN and NEXT VISION, which operates Vision Park on the 2nd floor.

Working together with nearby Hyogo Prefectural Kobe Children’s Hospital, the center, equipped with state-of-the-art devices, provides pediatric cancer patients with proton beam therapy that has a small late complication including secondary cancer.
