vol.19 January 2022
Hello, The first month of year 2022 is almost over. This year, there are 16 national holidays in Japan, and 2 of them were in January, Jan 1st (New Year's Day) and Jan 10th (Coming of Age Day). Coming of age day is to honor every person that has turned 20 years old over the past year, and typically the ceremony takes place in major cities in Japan. Those who's turned 20 years old gather together and celebrate. On this particular day, especially the girls wear Kimono (着物), Japanese traditional garment.
In fact, Japanese people rarely wear kimonos these days but just on the special occasions, such as weddings, tea ceremonies, or any other special events. Coming of age day is one and probably the only day we see many people (youngsters in this case) wearing kimono.
Seeing such beautiful and colorful kimono with bright smiles on their faces make us feel happy, and also make us rediscover the goodness of traditional Japanese culture 👘
